These days, it seems everyone has strong opinions and is eager to share them with, and even shout them at, complete strangers. Unfortunately for many, participating in any form of discussion with the adamant brings out the worst in them, as well. There are no winners when both parties have lost their way.
Because Twitter has become a major source of this divisiveness, online fights are regarded as frivolous, immature, and conducive to tribalism.
However, after getting into several Twitter battles myself, I believe that occasionally engaging in digital disputes can have some benefits. If carried out properly, that is.
Diving into a Twitter match can be a great way to test your ideas, forcing you to formulate your premise in 240 characters or fewer, and strangers won’t pull any punches when giving you feedback, meaning honest and instant reactions to your thoughts.
